Alma Mater

ALMA MATER is a character-led documentary series, produced across several distinct Portuguese regions, exposing fragile cultural tapestries, from the mountains to the sea.
Through the lives of those who inhabit these environments, the series reveals how vocation and inherited tradition continue to shape Portugal’s identity, not as a relic of the past, but as something lived, evolving, and deeply present, in need of preservation.
Episode 1, Pastoras de Cachenas, takes place in Soajo, Minho.
Teresa is a shepherd in the remote mountains of northern Portugal. At its core is the transfer of knowledge between generations, as Teresa (64) prepares to pass on a lifetime of experience to Maria (33), a young woman from Lisboa wishing to evolve to a more purposeful life.
The series is shot on Kodak film.
